Elephant Sanctuary - First Ethical Sanctuary
Bordering the Khao Phra Thaeo National Park, the Phuket Elephant Sanctuary offers a new home for overtired elephants who have suffered from working long hours in the logging and tourism industry. As the first ethical elephant tourism experience in Phuket, we rescue sick, injured and old elephants, welcoming them back into their indigenous habit.
At Phuket Elephant Sanctuary elephants can just be elephants. Feed them pineapples and bananas, and observe these gentle giants as they enjoy their newfound freedom, socialize with each other and bathe freely in our expansive fresh water lagoons.
Your visit guarantees to leave you inspired, transformed and in awe of these majestic animals.
Phuket Elephant Sanctuary is a final home for retired working elephants, set on 30 acres of lush tropical jungle. Observe how elephants rehabilitate into forest life after decades of abuse, and experience how incredible the largest land mammal on earth is during a day at our sanctuary.

A MORNING WITH THE ELEPHANTS
Time: 09.30 – 13.00
A morning with the elephants is an eye-opening and inspiring experience. Following a scenic drive along a local village you will arrive at Phuket Elephant Sanctuary, a picturesque jungle dotted with ponds, wide open fields and hillsides for the elephants to roam around.
Your visit starts at our Tree Top Reception and Observation Platform, where we will show you a presentation and educational video to prepare you for your encounter with the elephants, and to help you understand why they need to be protected.
Next up, you will feed the elephants. While they enjoy their baskets of bananas, pineapples and cucumbers, you have a chance to learn from our guides about the background of each elephant.
Once the elephants are fed, we walk with them down into the jungle. By keeping a safe distance and watching them from our Observation Salas, the elephants have the freedom to express their natural behavior, from bathing and playing in our pond to socializing with each other.
Our top priority is the wellbeing of the elephants. As such, we do not offer rides, shows, bathing, trunk hugging, elephant kisses, sitting on or lying on the elephants, loud noisy groups, or people crowding around the elephants.

A AFTERNOON WITH THE ELEPHANTS
Time: 13.30 – 17.00
Phuket’s first ethical safari type experience, our afternoon with the elephants program is ideal for elephant enthusiasts and nature lovers as it offers the opportunity to observe the animals at a respectful distance while they roam through our manicured forest and bathe in our expansive pond.
Your visit starts with an educational video presentation at our Tree Top Reception to prepare you for your time with the elephants and to understand the importance of protecting this beautiful animal. We then head down into the forest to find the elephants. Depending on where they are, we may explore the forest grounds or sit in one of our Observation Salas. Umbrellas, wellington boots and rain coats are available if needed.
Towards the end of the afternoon we walk the elephants up to our Tree Top Reception where you have the incredible opportunity to feed them some delicious treats before the elephants retire to their night shelters.
Our Afternoon with the Elephants is ideal for passionate elephant lovers and photographers as you will gain an in-depth knowledge, enjoy fantastic photo opportunities and experience an unforgettable few hours in the presence of the earth’s largest land mammal.

IN THE FOOTSTEPS OF GIANTS
Time : 09.30-17.00
During this interactive program you will spend many up-close moments with our rescued elephants, gain in-depth knowledge about their sophisticated means of communication, and learn about their natural habitat and the important role they play as a keystone species in our ecosystem. The program includes joined roundtrip transfers as well as a light breakfast, vegetarian lunch & dinner buffets, and cold drinks and refreshments throughout the day.
Your morning starts with light refreshments and a video presentation on the history and plight of Asian elephants. You will then have an opportunity to feed one of our rescued elephants for breakfast. Next, our tour guide will teach you about the intricate behavioral and communication patterns of elephants before you explore our 30-acre sanctuary to observe our elephants roam, play and bathe freely. The morning ends with a delicious vegetarian Thai lunch.
In the afternoon you will explore the natural habitat of Asian elephants and learn more about their important role as a keystone species in our ecosystem while observing the elephants roam through our jungle. You will then learn about the important role water plays in treating old and injured elephants as you meet some of the gentle giants at the new hydrotherapy pool and observe them enjoying their time in the water. Finally, you will help to prepare supplementary elephant food and feed the elephants for dinner before enjoying a vegetarian meal yourself to end the day.
