The rock faces at Railay Beach near Ao Nang have attracted climbers from all over the world and each year are the venue for the Rock and Fire Festival in mid April. There are several rock climbing schools at Railay Beach. The rock is limestone and has characteristic pockets, overhangs and faces. Railay has numerous multi-pitch areas most of which start from the beach itself. A famous example is „Humanality“. In addition, deep water soloing is popular on the numerous nearby rocky islands accessible by long-tail boat. Another popular destination is the Fossil Shell Beach located at Ban Laem Pho. The beach is famous for its fossilized snail shells, dwellers of the freshwater swamp that covered this area some 40 million years ago.
Our driver will pick you up around 5:15 am to 6:00 am from your hotel in Phuket (transfer is included in the price).
The boat leaves the pier around 7:00 am.
CRUISE TO PODA ISLAND
Discover many of Krabi’s Highlights home to some of the most spectacular beaches in the world, with turquoise waters interrupted only by the majestic limestone Karst. Visit the famous 4 Islands and Railay and enjoy the beautiful landscapes, relax on the beach, snorkel and even get a chance to see Macaque and Dusky Leaf monkeys.
Krabi’s fairytale limestone formations come to a dramatic climax at Railay (also spelt Rai Leh), the ultimate Andaman gym for rock-climbing fanatics. Monkeys frolic alongside climbers on the gorgeous crags, while down below some of the prettiest beaches in all Thailand are backed by proper jungle. Enjoy Pranang Beach, Railay East and West. Beautiful stalactite and stalagmite formation along the way to Diamond Cave. Lunch at Sunset Resort at Railay West.
And finally, when I least expected it, there it was. The Poda island paradise I had dreamed of. Crystal clear water and wide, white deserted sand beaches. We walked down the beach, away from the boats and the crowds, and the unthinkable happened: suddenly, we weren’t surrounded by people anymore. No more boats. Just crystal clear turquoise water, an empty beach, and the occasional sun seeker hidden between trees or tree trunks. It felt glorious. Chicken Island and Tub Island, also known as “Koh Gai/Koh Kai” or “Koh Tub” in Thai. Chicken Island and Tub Island are connected with a sand bank. On Tub Island you won’t find many shady spots and during low tide you can just walk from one island to the other. Just opposite the sand bank on Chicken Island you will see a small shack. Next to the shack there is a sign which leads you to the view point. It’s not really high and the way up won’t take you too long. The “stairs” are not really properly built. You should be careful and hold the ropes just in case you will slip. Since you are on the top you will have a fantastic view at Tub Island and the sand bank between those islands. Besides that, you will see Koh Poda and the mainland of Krabi in the background. Krabi’s limestone cliffs and rocks just impress me again and again.
Visit the most famous cave in Railay „Diamond Cave“ and having buffet lunch at Railay West at „Sunset Resort“. We also do a small snorkelling stop at Koh Si for 30 minutes to explore the underwater world of Krabi.
Return to the pier around 3:30 pm and return transfer to your hotel around 4:30 PM
